PhD: Novel Advanced Functional Materials for 3D Printing Within the Cluster of Excellence 3D Matter Made to Order (3DMM2O), which is supported by the DFG (German Research Foundation) as part of the Excellence Strategy, there is 1 open position for Doctoral Researchers (f/m/d) In the group of Prof. Pavel Levkin, we are looking for a PhD for an exciting project on the development of novel advanced functional materials for 3D printing. Our group specializes in the design and development of functional materials and interfaces for applications in sustainable and automated high-throughput chemistry, functional materials, and biology. We are seeking a motivated Ph.D. candidate for a project that is dedicated to the comprehensive development, optimization, and application of novel materials for 3D-printed functional structures. Our primary focus is around porous polymer structures, aiming to create 3D structures with diverse responsive and multifunctional properties. The applications of these porous 3D structures span adsorption, catalysis, microfluidic devices, superhydrophobic structures, sensors, implants, drug delivery systems, and tissue engineering. Strong theoretical background in chemistry (organic, polymer) and/or materials science Experience in material characterisation (UV-VIS, FTIR, rheology, AFM, SEM), ideally, experience with 3D-printing or ink development Fluent English and (preferrably) good German Love to science, team-player mindset, and good time-management skills PhD: 3 years, Carl Zeiss Stiftung PhD fellowship The Cluster of Excellence 3D Matter Made to Order (3DMM2O) combines the competencies of Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and Heidelberg University to advance 3D Additive Manufacturing to the next level. The participating disciplines encompass chemistry, physical chemistry, physics, biophysics, biology, biomechanics, mechanical engineering, and electrical engineering.
